In recent years, many farms have been evolving beyond traditional agricultural production. Farm stays, rural tourism, cafés, and visitor experiences are becoming increasingly popular, creating new opportunities for rural businesses while also increasing their electricity demand.

At the same time, modern farming operations already rely heavily on electricity. Water pumping, refrigeration, irrigation systems, workshops, lighting, and agricultural equipment all require a stable and reliable power supply.

For farm owners, solar energy provides an opportunity to reduce reliance on grid electricity and improve long-term energy independence. However, farmland also has its own challenges—every available area needs to be carefully planned for livestock activities, agricultural operations, vehicle access, future expansion, or additional facilities.

Maximizing Solar Capacity with a Space-Efficient Dual-Row Design

For this farm, the goal was not only to save electricity costs but also to make the best use of available land.

Unlike normal solar rooftops, farmland often serves multiple purposes. Open areas may be needed for livestock activities, agricultural equipment access, future expansion, or additional facilities such as farm stays and visitor experiences.

Therefore, the customer needed a solar solution that could provide high energy output while keeping the installation footprint as compact as possible.

To achieve this balance, United Energy supplied a dual-row carbon steel ground mounting system. Compared with conventional single-row structures, the dual-row design allows two rows of PV modules to share the same supporting framework, improving land utilization while maintaining structural stability.

Designed for large-format 605W bifacial double-glass modules, the system successfully installed 316 PV modules within an optimized layout, helping the customer maximize solar capacity without unnecessarily occupying valuable farm space.

Engineered for New Zealand's Wind Conditions

For ground-mounted solar projects, structural reliability is one of the most important considerations—especially in open rural environments where wind exposure can be significant.

The mounting structure supplied for this project was engineered according to the requirements of AS/NZS 1170.2:2021, the Australian and New Zealand standard for structural wind actions.

By considering local wind loading conditions during the design process, the system provides reliable structural performance and long-term stability under demanding outdoor environments.

Manufactured from hot-dip galvanized carbon steel, the mounting structure also delivers excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for New Zealand's changing weather conditions and ensuring a long service life with minimal maintenance.

Generating Around 650kWh of Clean Energy Daily for Farm Operations

With an installed capacity of 191.18kW, the solar system is expected to generate approximately 650kWh of clean electricity per day under New Zealand's local solar conditions.

This renewable energy helps reduce reliance on grid electricity and supports a wide range of daily farm operations, including water pumping, refrigeration, irrigation systems, workshops, lighting, and other agricultural equipment.

By generating clean power on-site, this project provides the customer with greater energy independence while supporting long-term farm development.

In addition to the solar modules and mounting system, the customer also selected United Energy's PV combiner boxes and DC protection components to enhance system safety and simplify electrical integration.
